Willows Protect Streams

Reading Progress:

Streambank stabilization is a top priority of the District. Streambank erosion occurs for many reasons, such as flood events, a lack of deep plant roots to hold soil in place, or watershed development. Our team assists municipalities and landowners with streambank erosion problems.

The District is working with a landowner in Indian Lake to help protect streambanks with streamco willow plantings. The streamco willow cultivar has tough, flexible branches that weather floods very well. They are fast growers with a large base stem density and root biomass.

Shout out to our friends at Herkimer County Soil and Water Conservation District for supplying the willows!

For help with streambank erosion on your property or in your town, contact the District for assistance.
